New York Amtrak Rails to Recovery Program

Recognizing that travel for treatment of life-threatening medical conditions can be both expensive and stressful, Amtrak® has partnered with the Albany, New York, based organization Voices of Hope and the New York State Department of Transportation to offer a “buy one, get one free” discount fare for passengers and families traveling on Amtrak Empire Service® trains for treatment. According to Amtrak Government Affairs Officer Bill Hollister, since the program was started in 2014 through 2017, the Rails to Recovery program has carried 1,458 passengers.

Voices of Hope is a consortium of nonprofit organizations located throughout the Albany area. Participating organizations, including the Oley Foundation, meet regularly to network, exchange resources and ideas, and share best practices. To learn more about Rails to Recovery and other programs visit the Voices of Hope website (www.voicesofthecapitalregion.org).

If you know of a group like Voices of Hope in your area, let us know! We will make sure they know about the resources we have available.
