Anticipatory Grief Discussion for Caregivers

Wednesday, February 5, 2025 @ 1:00 pm ET

Anticipatory grief, ambiguous and secondary losses are not often discussed, so parents don’t always understand what it is that they’re experiencing. Many experience these forms of grief alone, and feel guilty, or confused. Understanding that grief is a natural, and common part of caring for a medically complex child, can help the family go a long way towards finding balance, coping and strength. Join Jennifer Siedman, mother to a medically complex son and Director of Community Engagement at Courageous Parents Network in a discussion about grief, and strategies and tools for reframing.

Here are some ways you can get involved during Feeding Tube Awareness Week:

  • Get vocal on social media. Share the facts and messaging from our toolkit above, or share your own story and

    experiences, using the hashtag, #FeedingTubeAwarenessWeek.

  • Debunk misinformation. For example, hold educational discussions (formal or informal) at your school or place of work to share personal experiences and promote a better understanding.

  • Support those with a feeding tube. Feeding tubes provide a chance to get better and healthier but is it not always an easy road. Be compassionate and support their fight.

  • Head to oley.org/patientsprofiles to read about some of Oley's incredible members who are on tube feeding, and other types of nutrition support, and share the stories that you find meaningful!

We are here to support you! Questions, contact info@oley.org or (518) 262-5079.
