Resources for Parents
The American Pseudo-obstruction and Hirschsprung’s Disease Society (APHS) is sponsoring a program for parents of children with GI disorders. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Pediatric Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders course offered January 20 to 21, 1996, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach, CA. For more information call APHS at (617) 395-4255.
The Children’s Motility Disorder Foundation (CMDF) is a new not-for-profit foundation working to increase awareness of pediatric motility disorders in the general public and among the physicians most likely to encounter children suffering from these conditions. CMDF also supports medical research regarding the causes, treatment and possible cures for these relatively rare but potentially life-threatening disorders. For more information write to: CMDF, 1534 Dunwoody Village Parkway, Suite 104, Atlanta, GA 30338; or call (404) 395-1050.
A national information and support network, the Capital Area Pediatric Heartburn and Reflux Association (CAPHRA) provides patient education publications, a videotape and a monthly newsletter for parents of children with heartburn and reflux conditions. (CAPHRA also offers some information about motility disorders, eosinophilic gastroenteritis and similar conditions that have reflux as a symptom.) The association offers support groups in the Washington, DC area, counseling on the telephone and a library of technical information. For more information write to CAPHRA, PO Box 1153 Germantown, MD 20875-1153; or call (301) 972-6128.
