19th Annual Conference Reaches New Heights in Consumer Education!
San Francisco was the place to be for Oley members who attended the 2004 Oley Foundation Consumer/Clinician conference. Held June 29th - July 1st at the Marine Memorial Club and Hotel in downtown San Francisco, a terrific time was had by all.
We saw lots of new faces, and greeted old friends at this conference. An unprecedented 24 exhibitors connected industry to the end-users of their products, and preliminary feedback from those representatives shows that they benefited as much as the consumers!
Our weather was terrific and the hotel was beautiful. The hotel staff was gracious and very hard-working, our faculty was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and our volunteers wonderfully generous. Together, everyone had a dynamic learning experience coupled with great fun and camaraderie - we feel safe to say this conference was a resounding success!
Hikers kicked off the conference walking in Muir Woods, a beautiful part of the Golden Gate Park System and a redwood forest. This was geared for all levels of ability, and had great educational plaques and exhibits scattered to help us understand just how awesome the trees are. Kids had a great time at Jammin’ Jammies, and field trips to the Exploratorium and Golden Gate Park for a scavenger hunt. Adults enjoyed networking and sharing their new knowledge at the complementary social hour at the end of each day, and everyone had fun sightseeing on the cable cars. The silent auction raised over $3,500 to support Oley programs - many thanks to those who brought items for the auction, and all of those members who sent items and those who made purchases.
Thanks are due to everyone who journeyed to our conference - it is our unique mix of consumer, clinician and industry that sets Oley apart and makes for such a dynamic experience. We applaud our sponsors who make this possible and help bring real opportunities and education to those surviving on nutrition support therapies. As for the Oley staff, we get great energy and renewed drive and purpose from meeting everyone and learning new ideas that can benefit our members. We thank everyone for coming and we hope to see you next year!
