Book Your Room Now
Join us at the Trade Winds Island Resort in St. Petersburg,
Florida, for Oley’s Annual Consumer/Clinician Conference, June 29–July 2. You’ll
gather a wealth of information—from faculty, exhibitors, and other homePEN
consumers—and you’ll love the relaxed atmosphere of this Gulf Coast resort.
You’ll have a chance to enjoy the white sandy beach, curl up in a cabana to
“wind down,” and/or enjoy the many restaurants, swimming pools, walking paths
and activities that the resort alone offers.
The program and activities we have planned are geared to help you explore ways
to keep complications at bay and to make the best of your life dependent upon
tube feedings or infused nutrition. (See the preliminary schedule below.)
Personal
Experience
One mom who attended the Oley Annual Conference in 2008 said, “It changed our life, our outlook, and our marriage. The information that we received during the seminars was amazingly helpful, the friends we made will be life long, the memories will never die. The connections we made with medical professionals and speakers there gave us confidence and hope. The research, tips and different approaches and protocols we learned about were exciting and inspiring. It was undoubtedly the best week my husband, son and I had in two years.”
Why Should I Attend?
The Oley Foundation conference focuses on the medical and emotional challenges of patients on home intravenous nutrition and tube feedings. Information is shared in large and small groups led by well-known clinicians from across the country and attended by people who depend on tube or IV feeding.
Come to the conference to:
-
Understand more about the therapy that sustains you or your family member.
-
Learn how to better deal with day-to-day life.
-
Communicate your health care and emotional needs with more self-assurance.
-
See what the future may bring for those on long-term HPEN.
-
Meet others living at home with tube and/or IV feeding.
As one attendee put it, “Whether it was ways to reduce line infections or learning about portable feeding pumps to improve our quality of life, Oley provided us hope.”
Plus!
Many of the obstacles that might stand in the way of traveling have been removed:
-
Local emergency room information will be identified.
-
Nursing/pharmacy backup support has been arranged.
-
Hotel staff has been briefed about your supplies and shipping needs.
-
Refrigerators are in all guest rooms.
-
The room rate we’ve negotiated is a steal for a resort like this.
-
The sun will shine and you will be warm!

Travel Grants for Conference Goers!
Thanks to generous donors who believe the conference is extremely beneficial, there are several $500 travel scholarships available this year to homePEN consumers who will be attending the Oley annual conference for the first time. There is also a limited number of corporate-sponsored travel grants for Regional Coordinators. Applicants should not be receiving any other financial assistance from homecare companies, etc. for travel and/or lodging expenses related to attending the conference.
First-time conference attendees should write two paragraphs describing how they believe attending the conference will affect their life and submit them to us by May 15 (address below). The ideal candidate will also describe their plans to share information learned at the conference with consumers and/or clinicians back home. Travel must be completed and receipts received by Oley before reimbursement can be made.
Angel Flight NE Compassion Flights
Angel Flight NE provides free air transportation to patients whose financial resources would not otherwise enable them to travel for medical reasons. Flights are generally limited to a 300-mile range. For more information visit www.angelflightNE.org or call (800) 549-9980.
Other Ideas to Cover Travel Costs

Nominate yourself or your loved one for an Oley award (see details at www.oley.org). Most awards come with a partial travel scholarship.
-
Request a travel scholarship from a church or synagogue; your local United Way; a local Kiwanis, Rotary or Lions club; or a disease-specific organization like the March of Dimes, Easter Seals or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
-
Get a break on your taxes! Because the conference is educational, some conference-related expenses may be tax deductible. Talk to your tax consultant or visit www.schwablearning.org.
